Answer visibility
Be the answer, not just a resultAnswer-ready content structure
More questions now end in an answer than in a list of links. Assistants and AI overviews summarise a handful of sources and cite them — and if your site is not written and structured to be quoted, you are invisible to that audience no matter where you rank.

Signs it is time
You are probably here because…
- Assistants answer questions about your category and cite someone else
- Your site ranks, but the answer box above it belongs to a competitor
- The business is described inconsistently across the sources AI systems read
- Content is written to fill a word count rather than to answer a question
- Nobody is monitoring how AI tools describe you
What are AEO and GEO?
AEO (answer engine optimisation) makes your content the direct answer to a question, in a featured snippet, a voice assistant or an AI Overview. GEO (generative engine optimisation) makes your brand one of the sources that AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot cite and recommend when they write a reply.
Both build on SEO. SEO earns a place in the list of results; AEO and GEO earn a place in the answer that now sits above that list, or replaces it entirely.
Why does it matter for businesses in Dubai and the UAE?
Because customers now read a written answer before they see any links, and they act on the businesses it names.
- 8%of Google searches led to a click on a result when an AI summary appeared
- 15%led to a click when there was no AI summary
- 1%led to a click on a link inside the AI summary itself

Why do AI tools recommend your competitors instead of you?
No AI company publishes its selection rules, so nobody can promise a citation. But the reasons a business gets left out are well understood, and every one of them can be fixed.
Unclear identity
Your name, services, location and phone differ between your website, Google Business Profile and directories, so AI tools cannot be sure who you are.
Answers buried in prose
Pages that make the reader dig are hard to quote. Pages that answer first, then explain, are easy to lift.
No machine-readable facts
Without schema markup, search engines and AI crawlers have to guess what you offer and where.
Nothing worth citing
The research that coined GEO (Aggarwal et al., KDD 2024) found that statistics, quotations and cited sources make content noticeably more visible in AI answers.
Few independent mentions
AI tools lean on what others say about you: reviews, press, partner sites and industry lists.
English only
UAE customers also search in Arabic. If your key facts only exist in one language, you are invisible in the other.

How long does AEO and GEO take to work?
Technical fixes such as schema and business profile corrections are usually picked up as soon as search engines recrawl your pages, often within weeks.
Being cited consistently in AI answers builds over months, as rewritten content is indexed and independent mentions grow. We set a baseline in the first two weeks, so every change is measured against where you started.
Is AEO and GEO right for my business?
It pays off most when customers research before they buy: clinics, real estate, education, hospitality, professional services, B2B, and e-commerce brands with a considered purchase.
If your website already ranks but enquiries are flat, or a competitor keeps appearing in AI answers about your category, this is usually the fastest place to win attention back.

Questions
Frequently asked.
- What is the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?
- SEO works to rank a page in a list of results. AEO — answer engine optimisation — works to have your content used as the direct answer, in a featured snippet or an assistant’s reply. GEO, generative engine optimisation, is about being cited in the summaries produced by AI systems. They overlap heavily, but the second two reward clear structure and quotable phrasing rather than page position alone.
- Does this replace SEO?
- No. Almost everything that makes a site quotable also makes it rankable — clean structure, real expertise, accurate markup. AEO and GEO build on SEO rather than replacing it, and a site with weak technical foundations will struggle at both.
- Can you guarantee our brand will be cited by AI tools?
- No, and neither can anyone else — these systems do not publish their selection rules and their answers change between models and versions. What can be done is to remove the reasons you would be excluded: unclear structure, missing markup, inconsistent information about the business, and content that never directly answers the question.
